DOWNTOWN NEIGHBOURHOOD ASSOCIATION

Meeting Minutes – Regular Meeting 13.03.24

Thank you to everyone who was able to make it out to our Regular Meeting and special community forum on the downtown grocery issue. Our meeting was a packed house attended by more than 100 residents of the downtown. A special thanks goes out to our guest speakers Richard, Bob, Stephano, Terry, Flor, and Harvey. Please find minutes to our meeting below:

13.03.24 – Regular Meeting – Minutes

The meeting was a good forum to discuss the issues and let out some steam. but how do we move forward. The main take away from the meeting: change can happen if we make it happen. Each of us may have sent our councillor and our mayor letters and phone calls, but as noted by one of the residents at our meeting yesterday, one call or one letter is not enough. We have to be persistent if we want to be heard. Please find our posters, blank letter campaign template, and City Hall contacts sheet at the links below:

Another big theme for this meeting was the need to organize. Harvey Smith, one of our guest speakers, issued a call to the residents present to organize themselves to push this agenda. Luckily, concerned residents from the Fred Douglas Residential Association, the DCRA, and other organizations have been voicing their concerns. The hope is that we can organize ourselves to voice those concerns together as a workforce. It’s our hope as the DCRA to help move that agenda forward with our neighbours.

More to come!  Our next meeting is April 28th.  Check around for more details.
